The Berea College baseball team held on to win the opening game of the day 13-12 before dropping a 10-4 decision Friday in Wilmore, KY.
Berea faced a 7-3 deficit heading into the 6th inning in game one before plating three runs in the 6th and seven in the top of the 7th for a commanding 13-7 lead. Asbury responded with five runs in the bottom of the 7th to pull within one before closer Lance Sheets ended the threat and secured the 13-12 win. Six Mountaineers posted multi-hit games and Blake Crowe, Austin Hunt, Mikey Scott and Ryan Akins all had three RBI each. Cord Glass tossed three innings in relief, allowing just three hits and one run, to earn the win.
The Mountaineers again fell behind 7-3 early in game two and, this time, were unable to rally. Asbury added a single run in the 4th and two more in the 6th for the 10-4 win. Berea left ten runners on base in the loss. Ryan Akins had another solid game offensively, going 2-3 with an RBI. Blake Crowe continued his torrid hitting streak, homering in his third consecutive game.
Asbury and Berea (13-9, 4-2 KIAC) will match up again tomorrow afternoon in Wilmore to complete the four-game conference set. First pitch is set for noon.
