Baseball Announces 2014 Recruiting Class

Baseball program brings in 14 new members for the 2014-2015 season.

Berea College Head Baseball Coach Todd Weaver announced the commitment of 14 student-athletes who will be joining the Mountaineers for the 2014-15 season.  The newcomers hail from the states of Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and New York; include 13 freshman and one Junior College transfer and covers each of the game's nine positions.  "Our incoming class is really going to make an impact. We were able to address specific needs, as well as add talented and experienced depth to our program," said Coach Weaver.

2014-15 Berea College Baseball Recruiting Class:

  • Devin Belleville (Infielder, Bourbon County HS, Paris, KY; pictured bottom right) Starting shortstop for Bourbon Co team that went 33-4 with a 40th District Championship and 10th Region Runner-Up, good hitter that will compete for time at both SS/3B
  • Ryan Blevens (Infielder, Butler HS, Louisville, KY) Starting second baseman for Butler team that went 25-9 with a 22nd District Championship and 6th Region Runner-Up, good hitter , capable of playing anywhere on the infield
  • Daulton Buchanan (Outfielder, Mountain Heritage HS, Burnsville, NC) speedy, athletic outfielder with good bat
  • Ethan Daniel (Infielder, Lawrence County HS, Paintsville, KY/Patrick Henry CC, Soph. transfer) physically mature player that has a year of college baseball under his belt
  • Jorge Reyes Delgado (Infielder, Fairdale HS, Fairdale, KY) good versatile defender in the middle infield with a solid bat
  • Caleb Gupton (1st baseman/ 3rd baseman/Catcher, Campbellsville HS, Campbellsville, KY; pictured top left) Starter at multiple positions for Campbellsville team that was the 20th District Runner-Up and 5th Region semi-finalist, good bat, capable of playing on both corners
  • Blade Hampton (Catcher/3rd Baseman, Johnson County HS, Mountain City, TN) good hitter with pop, solid defender 
  • Will Hislope (1st Baseman/Outfielder, Somerset HS, Somerset, KY; pictured top right) Starting left fielder for Somerset team that went 24-15 with a 47th District Championship and 12 Region Runner-Up, solid hitter that can play both positions well
  • Jesse James (Outfielder, East Carter HS, Grayson, KY) good defender with a strong arm and solid bat
  • Chase O'Connor (RHP/OF, Gallatin County HS, Warsaw, KY) strong arm that can contribute from both the mound and outfield, brother of former Mountaineer cross country runner Tarrence O'Connor
  • Christopher Sanicola (Outfielder/LHP, St. Dominic HS, Oyster Bay, NY) good bat, solid outfielder that could provide left-handed depth in bullpen
  • Tyler Stafford (Catcher/RHP, Mitchell HS, Bakersville, NC) good bat, strong arm that can compete behind the plate and off the mound
  • Jacob Stewart (1st Baseman, Allen County HS, Scottsville, KY; pictured bottom right) rangy 1st baseman, with good glove and solid bat
  • Nathan Summey (Outfield, Pisgah HS, Canton, NC) excellent defender with good bat
