Berea, Ky - The Berea College Mountaineers were able to grab their first win of the season over the Royal Crusaders of Crown College. Berea won 119-50 with five Mountaineers scoring in double figures.
In a slow start Crown was able to keep it close as Berea found themselves only leading by four, nine minutes into the game. The Mountaineers started to find rhythm using an 18-4 run to increase their four point lead to nineteen. They continued that run with the help of Richard Parker and Anthony Myrks to take a 55-27 halftime lead. Parker ended the first half with a team high 16 points, 12 being from behind the arc. Myrks shot a perfect 6-6 from the field and added 15 points in the first half.
In the second half the Mountaineers Continued to push their lead and found themselves up by fifty points with ten minutes left in the game. Berea continued to control the pace of the game and pulled further away to grab the sixty-nine point win of the Royal Crusaders. Freshman Stephen Butts led the Mountaineers in the second half with twelve points and 4 assists.
Every Mountaineer took the floor this evening with eleven players recording a point. The night was led by Anthony Myrks who recorded an impressive 24 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. The other four players that recorded double digits were Parker (23), Butts (16), Dominique Garmon (10) and Dillian Harper (10).
The Berea College Mountaineers will travel to Cincinnati, OH to compete in the Mount St. Joseph Tip-off Classic on Saturday November 21st. They are set to take on Albion College at 3:00 PM.
