Berea, KY- The Berea College men's basketball team returned home after the holiday break to take on the Ohio Mid-Western College Rams. In their last meeting, Berea defeated the Rams by a score of 97-59. Berea comes into the game with a 7-5 record and is currently ranked 7th in the USCAA Division I poll.
Berea came out ready to play and jumped out to a early 8-0 lead. Berea continued to add to their lead with a three point shot by Richard Parker that gave the Mountaineers a 17-5 advantage with 11:40 left in the half. Shawn Williams assisted Dyllan Harper with a no look pass to to bring the score to 34-21. The Rams put together a run that cut the Mountaineer lead to ten with one minute left in the first half. Berea pushed their lead back out to double digits and finished the half with a last second three point shot by Willams to give Berea a 47-32 lead going into the second half.
Parker led the Mountaineers in the first half with 15 points. Harper also scored in the double digits for the Mountaineers, dropping 14 points. Harper also led the Mountaineers under the glass picking up 7 rebounds.
Berea held the momentum at the start of the second half and with right under fifteen minutes left in the game, Stephen Butts scored five straight points to give the Mountaineers their largest lead of the game, 57-38. Parker continued to drop buckets in the second half hitting his fourth three point basket of the game with 10:42 left in the game to bringing the score to 66-44. With 6:24 left in the game the Rams found some momentum and cut the Mountaineer lead to thirteen. The Mountaineers did not wilt and responded quickly with a 12-0 run that pushed their lead back out to a game high of 24. Berea continued to hold the momentum and going on to top the Rams by a final score of 87-65.
Berea had two players finish the game with double-doubles, with Dyllan Harper scoring a career high of 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Ethan Harris was the other Mountaineer to get a double-double. Harris scored 10 points and snagged 11 rebounds. Parker lead the team in scoring with 30 points, making this is the fourth time Parker has scored over 30 in a single game this season.
Berea will be back in action on the road against USCAA opponent University of Cincinnati-Clermont on January 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
