Men's Basketball Earn Bid to 2016 USCAA Basketball National Championship

After ending the regular season as the eighth ranked team in the final USCAA Coaches Poll, the anticipation of whether a bid to postseason play for men's basketball was next on the checklist. Today, the wait finally ended, as the USCAA announced the seeds and brackets for the 2016 USCAA Men's Basketball National Championship in Uniontow, PA and the team received good news.

As the seeds were being annouced for the bracket, the men's team learned they gained a spot in the seeding compared to the final poll as they were awarded the seven seed in the tournament. The team finished with a 16-8 regular season record, including a 2-0 record against USCAA opponents. Richard Parker finished the regular season averaging 23.9 points, good enough for second in the USCAA. This is the second straight year the team has made the tournament. Last year, the team's first year in the USCAA, the team made it to the semi-finals, falling to this year's number one seed, Rohchester College.

This year's run to a championship begins with the Washington Adventist University Shock, the two seed. Washington Adventist finished their season with a 13-11 record and competed against two teams Berea played this season as well, Fisk University and Asbury University. Berea won against Fisk but lost to Asbury while the Shock went 2-0 against the two teams. The Mountaineers enter the tournament as the number two scoring team compared to Washington Adventist, who comes in at #12, at 83.5 and 74.7 respectively. The match up is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, March 2nd at 5:00 PM.  

The USCAA Basketball National Championships kick off with the Skills Competition at the Penn State Fayette Main Arena on March 1st at 12:00 PM, followed by the All-American Banquet at 6:00 PM at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Tickets for the tournament and banquet are available at Play begins on March 2nd with championship games being held on March 5th.
