#8 Berea Takes Down #6 Florida College in USCAA Classic 71-59

Berea, KY- #8 Berea returned to their home court this evening, comepting as the host in the USCAA Classic Tournament. The team took on the #6 Florida College Falcons of the USCAA. 

The Mountaineers raced out to a 7-0 lead off of points from Terique Miller, Gabe Hinton and Anthony Myrks-Brewer. Berea saw their lead balloon up to 18 points, as a part of a 23-12 scoring advantage, off of Richard Parker's three-point shot to make the score 30-12. Myrks-Brewer picked up his 400th career assist during the scoring run off a Parker three-point basket. Dyonta Bizzle-Brown pushed the Mountaineers ahead 35-18 with 1:57 remaining in the first half. Parker's third three-pointer of the half gave Berea a 38-20 lead they took into halftime.

Corey Wise scored the first basket of the second half to put the Mountaineers ahead by 20 points before a 9-0 run for the Falcons cut the lead to 11 points, 40-29. A three-point play for Florida College cut the Berea advantage to single digits before a Stephen Butts three-point jumper pushed the lead back up to double digits, 48-36. A Bizzle-Brown dunk off a Wise assist followed by a Miller three-point basket pushed the team ahead by 15 points, 53-38. Bizzle-Brown's second dunk of the night off a Parker pass gave the Mountaineers a 60-44 advantage. After the lead dwindled to 12 points, Parker's three-point basket along with Nick McCollum's free throws gave the team a 65-48 lead. An 11-4 run by the Falcons pulled them within 10 points of the lead before the Berea defense clamped down and held their opponent under 60 points for the second time this season, going on to win 71-59. The team has won four out of their last five games.

Parker led the team in scoring with 24 points on the night, including six three-point baskets. Wise added to the scoring effort with 14 points, while adding seven rebounds, two assists and three steals to his stat line. Miller put 10 points on the board along with four rebounds and four assists. Myrks-Brewer finished the game with six assists, moving his career total to 405. 

#8 Berea (13-7) returns to the Roland Wierwille Court on Sunday for their second game in the USCAA Classic Tournament. The team will take on USCAA opponent Warren Wilson College, a team they beat 93-78 a week ago, at 1:00 PM.
