Baseball Kicks off the Year with Annual Alumni Game

Berea, KY- On Saturday, the Berea College baseball team welcomed former players for the annual alumni game at the Berea College Sports Complex.  Among those who returned for the special event were All-American's Ryan Akins, Jerrod Moore, Evan Hackney and Donnie Harper.

The alumni took an early lead after a triple from Lance Shelton and a sacrifice fly from Nate Metz.  The alums extended their early lead to 2-0 in the second before the Mountaineers rallied to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.  Led by seniors Devin Belleville (2-2 with an RBI double) and Will Hislope (2-2 with a double), the Mountaineers scored multiple runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away, eventually winning 19-2 in what proved to be a great day of baseball between former and current Mountaineers.

Berea opens their 2018 season February 9-10 when they travel for a three-game set at the College of the Ozarks (Arkansas).  The home opener for Coach Brian Hill's squad comes one week later when the Mountaineers host Wright State Lake February 17-18.  The team will open USA South conference play February 23-24 at Piedmont.
