The Men's Golf Team started their season this week at the Blue Raider Fall Kickoff hosted by Lindsey Wilson College. Led by the returning USCAA National Champion Kevin Kim, the Berea College Men's Golf Team started with a very impressive start to the season at The Pines Golf Course.
Day 1 was a surprisingly impressive day for our golfers as they shot one of the lowest team rounds in over 2 years. Led by Senior Kevin Kim's 72 and Freshmen Michael Akard's 80, the team ended up shooting a 315, 7 strokes better than last year's best round for The Mountaineers.
Day 2 was played in rough conditions as low temperatures and rain effected almost all in the field. However, the golf team was able to shoot a score similar to Day 1 as they posted a 316. Senior Kevin Kim again led the Mountaineers by shooting a 73, which was good enough to finish T-13 overall in the tournament, his first finish outside the top 10 in 2 years. When asked about how he felt about the start to his season, Senior Kevin Kim stated "This really is not the way I wanted to start out my season, but I'm happy for the team for playing so well this week. They've worked so hard during practice and I'm really glad that it showed this week."
The golf team will be back in action in the Dick Park Invitational that begins on September 9th. Senior Kevin Kim will be looking to continue his success in the Dick Park Invitation by attempting to win it for the 3rd straight year.
