Ferrum, VA- The men's soccer concluded their two-day USA South conference road trip in the state of Virginia with a non-conference matchup against the Ferrum College Panthers. The trip ended with a 4-0 loss to the host Panthers.
The contest began with the two teams exchanging shots to open the match, with the first successful shot going to Ferrum in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Berea's shots were not finding their way into the net as a Panthers goal at the 33:17 mark put the Mountaineers behind 2-0. Three corner kicks by Berea were unable to cut Ferrum's lead in half as the Mountaineers went into halftime trailing by two goals.
Competitive defense and strong goalkeeping took over in the second half as neither team was able to put a ball in the back of the net in the beginning segments of the half. Berea was unable to change the momentum to their side as the 72nd minute saw the Panthers tack another goal onto the scoreboard to take a 3-0 advantage. A goal with 13 minutes remaining in the game gave Ferrum the final margin of victory. Noah DeHart, the starting goalkeeper for the Mountaineers, had a season-high 15 saves on 19 shots on goal. Issac Mendoza finished as the shot leader with four shots, shooting with 100% accuracy as all were shots on goal. Dakota Massucco also finished with double-digits shots with two.
Berea gets six days off from game competition before returning back to action as they face Piedmont College for the first time ever as a conference opponent. The game against the divisional opponent will take place on Saturday, September 23rd at 2:30 PM at the Berea College Sports Complex.
