Berea, KY- The rainy and wet conditions did not keep the men's soccer team from taking the field for a late morning/early afternoon USA South contest. The team hosted the Methodist University Monarchs of the East division at the Berea College Sports Complex today.
Trailing 1-0 after a Monarchs goal at the 17:41 mark, Jacob McCowan tried to give the team the equalizer with his shot at the 20th minute which went high. Shots from Dorian Del Toro, Dakota Massucco and Pedro Herrera as the Mountaineers continued their search for the tying goal did not go into the net. Methodist added another goal in the 41st minute and Issac Domenech had a chance with his shot to cut the lead in half but it went high. A goal 50 seconds before the end of the first half gave the Monarchs a 3-0 lead as the halftime buzzer sounded.
A shot 17 minutes into the second half to put a goal on the scoreboard for the Mountaineers and cut into the lead by Domenech was saved by the opposing keeper. The deficit moved out to 4-0 on a second half goal by the Monarchs as Domenech had another chance to cut into the visitors lead which went wide of the goal. Berea would be unable to stage a comeback against Methodist and went on to fall 6-0. Noah DeHart played the entire game in the net for the Mountaineers, finishing with seven saves on 13 shots on goal. Offensiveily, Domenech finished with a team-high three shots, followed by two shots by Herrera and a shot from McCowan, Massucco and Del Toro.
Berea heads out for a road trip for their next two games, with the first trip going to Montgomery, AL to play USA South West opponent Huntingdon College. First touch is scheduled for 2:00 PM and live statistics for the contest can be found at the official site of Berea College Athletics, www.bereaathletics.com.
