ATLANTA, GA- The Berea College men's track and field team began their outdoor season this past weekend at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, GA. The men finished 19th out of the 30 scoring teams at the meet and in total there were forty-five teams represented this weekend making it one fo the largest Emory Invitationals ever. The men had a great start to the season with several top finishes and a new school record.
The sprint squad had several top finishers as well. The 4x100m relay team of Issac Domenech, Anthony Boateng, Aaron Effoe and Wynn-Jones Mbwambo finished 14th overall in the meet. Issac Domenech came back to place 21st in the 400m with a time of 51.47.
The distance team also came in quick as well. Dylan Watkins represented well with a 7thplace finish in the 10k with a time of 34:08.40. In the 5k, Isaiah Dodson earned 5thplace with a time of 15:27.90. Jerrod Arnold set a huge PR in the 3K steeple running a time of 10:55.64, this was the first time Arnold has been under the 11:00 barrier. Then the highlight of the meet, Sophomore Emmanuel Kemei earned a first place finish and a school record in the 800m with a time of 1:53.13. The previous record was set by Joseph Kimeu in 2003 with a time of 1:54.66.
The Berea College men's 4x400m relay team capped the meet off by placing 8th with a time of 3:25.13, this was over a five seconds PR team. The team consisted of Issac Domenech, Dave Bell, Ethan Harris and Emmanuel Kemei.
The Berea College Mountaineers will compete again this Saturday, March 26, in Lexington, Kentucky at the Transylvania Invitational. The meet is set to start at 10AM.
