Cross Country Competes Well at Centre College Invitational

Mercy Kershner and Tarrance O'Connor take top spots for respective teams.

A new weekend and nearly the same order of finish for the Berea College Cross Country program as they competed at the Centre College Invitational in Danville, KY.  Like last weekend's Queen City Invitational each of the respective programs were led by Mercy Kershner for the women and Tarrance O'Connor for the men.  The mixed event included teams from both NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III competing on Centre's home course which features many elevation changes.

For the Women:

The women finished 4th out of six competing schools.  Host Centre won the event and finishing with 16 points, while Berry College finished second with 57 points, and Lincoln Memorial University - 61, Berea College - 109, Transylvania University - 146  and Kentucky State University - 171 points.  Kershner finished first for the women in 11th place overall with a time of 20:59.  Other performances for Berea included:  Gabrielle Sawyer 22nd - 21:54; and Gabriella Sabino 23rd - 22:02; Olamide Adejuma 30th - 23:09; Megan Hale 31st 24:09, and Sydney Kyker 43rd - 27:54.

For the Men:

The men finished a strong second out of the six schools competing.  Again host Center won the event with Berea finish second; while Lincoln Memorial, Berry College, Kentucky State, and Transylvania University rounded out the competition.  Last week's USCAA National Cross Country Player of the Week Tarrance O'Connor again led the charge for the Mountaineers finishing in 2nd place with a time of 27:15.  Emmanuell Kemmei finished 2nd for the Blue Crew and 6th overall with a time of 27:47.  The other members of the top-six for Berea included:  Nicholas Robinson 10th - 28:18; Michael James 13th - 28:40; Zachary Raab - 22nd - 30:13; Casey Monti 25th - 30:25.

Both squads will be back in action on their home turf as they host the Berea College Invitational on Saturday, on a course that meanders around and throughout Berea College's campus.
