From the Appalachian foothills to the South Carolina low country, that is the trip that the Berea College cross country programs made this weekend, as they headed to the coast to compete in the USC-Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational.
The event featured 650 runners representing 74 schools from throughout the southeastern United States including programs from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA ranks.
For the men, Tarrance O'Connor was again the swiftest Mountaineer. The senior's time of 25:47.02 in the 8K event was good enough for an overall finish of 45th. The men's other finishers were:
- Emmanuell Kemmei - 26:45.92 - 81st
- Nicholas Robinson - 26:55.80 - 85th
- Michael James - 26:56.06 - 86th
- Casey Monti - 27:07.85 - 92nd
- Zachary Raab - 28:08.46 - 124th
- Job Limo - 28:40.34 - 143th
NAIA's Tennessee Wesleyan College took the overall team championship.
Both the Men's and Women's cross country team's next event will be the biggest, the 2014 USCAA National Championships set for Friday, November 7, in Syracuse, New York.
