Berea, KY- The women's soccer team returned to the Berea College Sports Complex to conclude their three-game home stand this evening. The team welcomed in the Golden Eagles of Spalding University.
The game started off as a defensive stalwart as neither team could take advantage of their offensive chances to take the first lead of the game. In the 25th minute of the game though, Spalding put the first goal on the scoreboard to move ahead 1-0. A second goal for the visiting Golden Eagles went into the net about six minutes later and the shots Berea took in the first half would not find the back of the net as the team went into the halftime trailing 2-0.
Strong play from goalkeeper Amber Follin helped keep Spalding out of the net as the Mountaineers continued trying to cut into the deficit they faced. Three second half shots by Berea would not find the back of the net as the Mountaineers were unable to rally back and went on to fall 2-0. Follin finished the game with nine saves on 11 shots. Rebecca Schmidt and Madilyn Hord finished the game with two shots each.
Berea returns to the road for conference play in the USA South as they travel to LaGrange, GA to take on divisional opponent LaGrange College. The game is scheduled for Saturday with first touch at 2:00 PM. Live stats of the action can be found on the official site of Berea College Athletics, www.bereaathletics.com.
