LaGrange, GA- The women's soccer team returned to action in the USA South as the team traveled to Georgia to take on the LaGrange College Panthers
The first half saw Berea come out aggressively as Madilyn Hord and Sohara Perez got two shots off in the first 15 minutes of the game, both short of going in the back of the net. LaGrange took over the offensive attack but saves from Amber Follin kept the Panthers out of the net. The half ended in a defensive struggle as the teams went into the intermission tied 0-0.
Follin and the defense of the Mountaineers got tested early in the second half as LaGrange took two shots and produced three corner kickers in the first five minutes of the half. A forced corner kick for Berea put the first goal on the scoreboard as Madilyn Hord scored a goal off the kick by Sierra Massucco to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead. The combination of the defense and Follin kept the Panthers out of the net, giving Berea their first win of the season by a final score of 1-0. Hord finished with two shots on goal, including the first goal of her career, to go along with two shots from Perez, two shots from Glendy Pineda and a shot from Massucco for a total of seven shots. Massucco finished with an assist in the game. Follin saved all four shots which came in her path.
Along with their first win of the season, the Blue Crew get their first win ever in the USA South Athletic Conference. The victory moves the team's conference record to 1-1 as the Mountaineers continue their USA South conference trip in the state of Georgia when they take on Wesleyan College. First touch is scheduled for tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
