Women Open Up Outdoor Track and Field Season with Strong Showing at the Emory

ATLANTA, GA- The Berea College women's track and field team kicked off their outdoor season this past weekend at the Emory Invitational in Georgia. The women placed 21 out of the 36 competing teams and in total there were forty-five total teams represented at the meet.  The women had several top finishers across the events.

On the field, Simone Brown and Amber Sims showed off their talent. Brown placed 10thin the high jump with a distance of 1.50m. Sims placed 5th out of 42 in the javelin with a throw of 35.68m.

Cassandra McFadden and Rebecca Dixon lead the sprint squad for the women.  McFadden double in the 100 and 200 running 13.68 and 28.26.  Dixon ran the 200 finishing in a time of 28.56.

Hitting the track, Senior Layne Callow earned an 11thplace finish in the 800m with a time of 2:24.48. Junior Gabriella Sabino then placed 20thin the 1500m with a time of 5:14.86 and Sophomore Erin Gonterman finished 16th in the 5k with a time of 19:34.29.

The women's 4x400 team of Layne Callow, Grace Callow, Rebecca Dixon adn Megan Hale finished 17th with a time of 4:18.54.

The Berea College Mountaineers will compete again this Saturday, March 26, in Lexington, Kentucky at the Transylvania Invitational. The meet is set to start at 10AM.
