Indianapolis, In – The Berea College women's track and field team opened its 2016-17 campaign this weekend in Indianapolis in the University of Indianapolis Season Opener. The Mountaineers traveled a partial squad made up of primarily sprinters, jumpers and throwers to kick off the season.
Annah Pierce started the meet off with the 60m hurdles. Pierce finished 7th overall in the prelims and qualified for the finals. In the finals she ran a personal best of 10.16 and finished 5th overall.
Sydney Kyker was one of a few distance runner that competed for the Mountaineers. Kyker grabbed a top 10 finish in the 3k with a personal best time of 12.08.60.
The Mountaineers shined in the 200m having three women place in the top 20 in the field of 49 runners. Berea was led by freshman Kaylee Robinson who finished 9th place with a time of 28.19. Finishing close behind in 11th and 19th was sophomore Rebecca Dixon (28.38) and freshman Devan Dowdell (29.13).
This meet was the only event that the track team had scheduled for the fall semester. They return back to the track on January 13th and 14th were some of them will travel up the road to Lexington, KY to take part in the University of Kentucky Invitational.
