Mountaineer Post a First Place Team Finish At Hanover Invitational

Hanover, IN- This weekend the Berea College Women's Track and Field team continued their brilliant start to the season by winning the Hanover Invitational as a team. In a meet that consisted of 12 NCAA Division III teams, The Women's Track and Field team scored 130 points to secure the win. This win included personal records and a school record being broken again this year.

Freshman Khatriah Malik and Senior Cassie McFadden finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 100 meter dash. Malik ran a 13.09 which marked her fastest time for this season, as did McFadden with her time of 13.17. In the 200 meter dash, Sophomore Kaylee Robinson won the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.78, which was her fastest run for this season. Freshmen Khatriah Malik and Senior Kierra Moore also scored in the event. The four sprinters (Malik, McFadden, Moore, and Robinson), then worked together to win the 4x100 meter relay, which saw them break their own 4x100 meter school record set earlier this year with a time of 48.9.

In the 400 meter dash, Kaylee Robinson finished second in the event with a time of 1:00.18. Freshmen Sydney Coleman also scored for the Mountaineers with a time of 1:04.99 and Sophomore Alli Silas ran a time of 1:06:04. In the 800 meter dash, Junior Jenna Hughes scored in the event by finishing with a time of 2:31:52. The Mountaineers also did well in the 5000m run where Freshmen Abigail Schlenker, Junior Dove DeNigris, and Sophomore Delaney Williams finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively with times of 18:52.92, 18:55.53, and 19:02.16. Caitlyn Roberts, Tylan Eastham, and Rachel Melstead also ran the event and ran a time of 20:52.74, 21:30.87, and 21:36.98. Hayley Clark also finished 3rd in the 10,000m run with a time of 42:53.60.

In the 100m hurdles, Freshmen Destinee Henery finished 3rd in the event with a time of 17.32, her best of the season. Junior Kearstin Tingle also competed in the event and ran a time of 19.88. Henery also finished 3rd again in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.45. In the 3000m steeplechase, Sophomore Ivanna Sabino finished 3rd with a time of 12:24.13 and Senior Erin Gonterman finished 6th with a time of 12:51.96. The 4x400m relay team for the Mountaineers also did very well finishing 2nd with a time of 4:14.70 , which consisted of Henery, Robinson, Silas, and Coleman.

For the jumpers, Allison Dallman scored for the Mountaineers in the High Jump with a jump of 1.54m. As did Senior Kierra Moore in the long jump with a distance of 5.06m which put her at 3rd for the event. Destinee Henery also scored in the triple jump with a jump of 9.92m. Maya Riddles competed in the shotput and recorded a throw of 10.41m, as well as Clarisa Williams who recorded a throw of 7.41m. Williams also competed in the javelin and recorded a throw of 12.75m.

The Mountaineers will be back in action in the Bellarmine Invitational on April 6th
