Volleyball Unable to Complete Comeback Against Piedmont

Demorest, GA- The volleyball team concluded a two-day road trip this afternoon, leaving the state of Tennessee to play their next game in the state of Georgia. The team stayed in conference as they played the Piedmont College Lions.

The first set saw Berea reach a 2-0  lead off of Isis Hill's block solo before the game became a call and respond type of contest. A kill from Caitlyn Miller helped the Mountaineers score three straight points to give Berea a 7-4 advantage, until four consecutive points from Piedmont gave them the lead. After the set continued to remain close, Berea took the lead they had surrendered earlier in the set back on a kill from Hill to give the team a 15-14 lead. The visiting Mountaineers could not hold on to the lead though as Piedmont took the first set by a score of 25-20.

After falling behind in the beginning of the second set, errors from the Lions along with a second block solo from Hill helped Berea move ahead 7-4. Kills from Kristin Barnes and Megan Voorhees gave the Mountaineers a four point advantage, 12-8. The momentum changed to the side of Piedmont though as they scored 17 of the final 19 points to win the second set 25-14.

Berea took a 3-0 lead before pushing their lead to 6-4 off Barnes' kill in the opening segments of the third set. The lead briefly changed to the side of the Lions until a kill along with a service ace from Bailie Parker gave the Blue Crew a 13-10 advantage. Piedmont would come back and take the lead, pushing ahead 20-14 before the Mountaineers scored 11 straight points which included two consecutive kills from Voorhees, to win the race to 25 points on the scoreboard, 25-20, and extend the match to a fourth set. The offensive prowess did not carry over into the fourth set for Berea, as Lions went on to win the fourth set with a 25-6 final score, winning the match 3-1.
