The Berea College Men's soccer team triumphed Sunday afternoon as they shutout the Warren Wilson Owls 2-0. The team improved their record to (2-0) and also continued their clean-sheet streak.
The Mountaineers and Owls battled hard all day. The Owls' defense stayed tough for the Mountaineers as they could not get much going for the first 44 minutes. However, Berea's freshman forward Max Jr. had different plans for the last 10 seconds of the half. Getting a deep outlet pass from the freshman goalie Luis Macias, Max Jr. kicked a tailing shot from midfield wrapping just inside the upper-right corner. Berea was on the board and had no intentions of looking back.
The second half proved to be more of the same for the Mountaineers. The strong defense denied the Owl's easy offense. At the 69:12 mark, Berea gathered some insurance thanks Austin Duff's goal. The men worked the ball and Warren Wilson never found the net. The Mountaineers picked up their second victory in the young season.
The Mountaineers defense led by freshman defender Christoff Mendy allowed 0 shots on goal.
The Mountaineers offense had 27 shots, with 11 of those shots being shots on goal.
The Men will be back in action Wednesday, September, 4th, as they take on Spaulding University. The contest will take place at 7:30 pm at the Berea College Sports Complex.
