The Mountaineers pushed their winning streak to 9 games on Sunday by defeating the Wesleyan Wolves (Ga.). Berea cruised past Wesleyan by scoring 80 points to Wesleyan's 57 points. The Mountaineers are now 7-0 in the USA South Conference.
Only shooting 30.9% from the field, Berea still shot enough to score 80 points in the game. The Mountaineers started slow against the struggling Wolves, but were able to get it going and take the lead to the largest in the game in the 3rd quarter, which was 33 points. Wesleyan was out-rebounded by Berea 57 to 43. The Mountaineers shot well from the charity stripe, shooting 71.4% to Wesleyan's 52.9%.
Freshman guard Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY), led the Mountaineers with 28 points and 9 rebounds. Hampton was very efficient with her shooting, having 53% field goal percentage. Following her was sophomore guard Leah Parker (Livingston, TN), who scored 25 points and added 5 rebounds. Senior guard Bethanie Williams assisted with 9 points and 4 rebounds, and senior Briana Lanham added 6 points and 6 rebounds.
For the Wolves, coming off the bench Natera Perkins led Wesleyan with 15 points and 5 rebounds who shot 42% (6-14) from the field. Following her was Jamil Ra-Hashim, shooting 50% (4-8).
The Berea Mountaineers will be back in action Saturday, January 18th, against Brevard College in Brevard, NC. This game will also be Berea and Brevard's second time playing against each other this season.
