RIO GRANDE, OH. – The Berea women's volleyball team traveled to NAIA competitor, Rio Grande, as they hosted a tri-match featuring Berea and Appalachia Bible Colleges'. Berea would split the games by falling to the Red Storm (Rio Grande) and defeating the ABC Warriors.
The Mountaineers started the day against the Appalachian Bible College Warriors. Berea would sweep the Warriors in 3 sets, giving the ladies their second sweep on the young season. The Mountaineers dominated the first set, winning (25-5). The Warriors were on their heels from the start, Berea didn't lighten up.
The second set, saw a more evenly contested game; despite an extended score, the Mountaineers pulled out set 2, (26-24). By the third set, Berea had momentum and would not let up. Berea completed the 3-set sweep with a (25-16) victory in the final set.
After defeating the Warriors, it was onto the Red Storm. They took the mountaineers by storm in the first two sets, edging out narrow victories in both sets. (25-22, both sets). Berea showed some spark in the third set, declaring they would not be cast without a fight. Berea beat Rio Grande by the largest margin of the contest 12, (25-13). Storming off the victory the Mountaineers looked to even the affair, but fell short getting defeated (25-16).
The tri-match split improves Berea's record to 3 wins and 8 losses. The ladies will be back in action in the coming week, hosting Marietta Thursday at the Seabury center. First serve is set for 7:30 pm.
